"Desire plays an enormous role in my work, it reaches its zenith in the studio, the purest site of creation. There I can let go and emotionally reconnect with those experiences that shaped my identity. Art is a kind of time travel, a perpetual state of collective identification and joy."

David Powell (1969, Cardiff, Wales) is a British artist living and working in The Hague. He studied Fine Art at Cardiff College of Art & Design, United Kingdom (1987 – 1988), he went on to study a double degree in Fine Art and Art History at the Slade School of Art, University College London (1988 – 1992) finally completing his studies at De Ateliers, Amsterdam (1994 – 1996). His teachers included Peter Doig, Georg Herold, Luc Tuymans, Jan Dibbets, Chris Dercon and Sarah Lucas. Upon returning to London David did assistant work with Sarah Lucas, Angus Fairhurst and Gilbert and George. David lives and works in The Hague, Netherlands.
